At the time the film was released, JC (Cleese not the other one) said the film was anti religion not anti God. I still agree with that comment.

In this BBC video, apparently from shortly after the 1979 release of Monty Python’s classic The Life of Brian, a collection of clerics from the Church of England tell John Cleese and Michael Palin that they’ve been very, very naughty for making the movie, while Cleese and Palin masterfully parry them.

  1. Oh, that’s a classic debate! Although I’ve always found it frustrating how the christians refuse to accept that it wasn’t depicting Jesus. But I suppose if they did then much of their arguments against the film fall down.
